With so many different forms of electronic entertainment out there for kids, it’s hard to know what is good and what is bad. The collection of books by StoryChimes are one of SuperMommy’s favorite iPad/iPhone applications!
StoryChimes are classic children’s stories that we used to read when we were growing up (and some new titles as well). Each story is exactly as if you are reading a book.
There are two options available – “read along” and “I want to read”. The “read along” option actually reads the book aloud, while highlighting each word as it is being read. It also includes music and sound effects. This is perfect for when you need a little bit of mommy time, but still want your child to do something educational and productive.
There are many StoryChimes available for FREE, while others cost anywhere from US$99-US$1.99. My son’s favorites are Hansel & Gretel and The Three Little Pigs.
Some of the other free StoryChimes are Thumbelina, The Princess and The Pea, The Emperor’s New Clothes, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince, The Elves and The Shoemaker, The Ugly Duckling, and many, many more.
Also, after reading some of the electronic StoryChimes books on the iPad my son wanted us to buy him the actual book (which we happily purchased for him). It’s a great way to have different stories to entertain and teach your child, without having to carry around a stack of books.
