For Zayden’s 7th Birthday he really wanted to invite his friends over for a movie-night bash! Since it was a birthday party and not just your average movie night, we decided to do a few extra things to make the movie night a little bit more special.
As per the birthday boy’s request, this was an an almost all boy affair, with only 12 kids in attendance (parent’s optional). Not too many and not too little, just the right size for a movie themed birthday party!
Let’s go over the awesome party details.
The Tickets
The first thing you will need for your awesome movie night party are tickets! Zayden’s birthday invitation was in the shape and resembled a a movie ticket.
As the kid’s entered the party, they received another set of tickets which they had to present in order to receive the various concessions (popcorn, treats, drinks, etc) during the party.
The Movie Theatre
In order to have a movie night, you will need to organize your party space and set it up to have that “movie theatre” feel. We decided to rent the residents lounge at the GW Serviced Apartments to give us a big open space to host the party.
If you are doing the movie night party at your house, you can set up chairs, bean bags or cushions on the floor so that there is enough space for the kids to sit. A bit of rearranging of furniture is all you need. If you have a big back yard, you could have a super fun outdoor “drive-in” style movie party!
The Concessions Stand
Now we all know besides watching the actual movie the next best thing is the concessions stand!
We wanted to give that feel of walking up to the actual concessions counter, ordering food, paying money (in our case exchanging tickets) and then getting yummy food to eat. As such, we displayed all the food so that the kids could pick, choose and admire as they walked by.
Movie Night Games
Prior to the start of the movie the kids had the opportunity to play some games. We just set up some of the board games from our house and the kids could pick and choose what they wanted to play.
Popcorn Bar
Now no movie would be complete without a popcorn bar! Some of the popcorn was homemade and others were store bought. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you have a little bit of variety to choose from.

We also had some “popcorn” themed cupcakes.

In addition to the popcorn bar & popcorn themed cupcakes, we decided to have some “customized” popcorn containers for the kids. This was something they could take home at the end of the party as part of the goodie bag gift.
Super Note: I purchased these containers on Etsy and they were able to ship Internationally to Singapore.
The Intermission Food
Movie Night food should be super simple and non-messy! We organized an “intermission” from the movie about 45 minutes after the movie started. The kids sat around at small tables that we set up with a small popcorn centerpiece.
We served pizza, hot dogs, mac & cheese, veggies and fruits as the main intermission food.
The Drinks
The drinks ranged from apple juice to orange juice (no soda) and were served in plastic covered cups with big straws.
This made it fun & easy for the kids to drink during the movie, but also didn’t result in any accidental spills.
The Treats
Since this was a birthday party, we (aka myself) decided to let loose a bit and let the kids really get all sugared up with treats.
We had some homemade Marshmallow Pops…

And an Ice-Cream Bar (the kid’s ate most of the toppings before the ice-cream was served..whoops).
The Movie Themed Cake
Now no movie night birthday party would be complete without a birthday cake – movie themed of course!
The Goodie Bags
The kids went home with a variety of movie themed goodies.
Including mini trophies (Oscars).
Movie Night Finale
Overall, the birthday movie night was a success. The kids all had an awesome time! They went home stuffed full of food and with a handful of goodies.
