If you or your kids are big Superhero fans, then the DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe in Singapore is one place you might want to check out! We decided to dine at the DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe for Zayden’s birthday surprise in March, but have frequented there a few times since.
Location
DC Comics Super Hereos Cafe has two locations in Singapore – Marina Bay Sands (2 Bayfront Avenue Bay Level, 01-03, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands) and Takashimaya (391A Orchard Road, #02-13 Ngee Ann City, next to Taxi Stand).
**Please note, this review is based on the Takashimaya location – we have never visited the one at MBS.
Reservations
The DC Cafe does take reservations. I do recommend booking in advance if you are going on a weekend or public/school holidays. During peak hours the place does get busy and you might also have to wait in a long line unless you make a reservation.
Atmosphere
The DC Cafe has a fun & vibrant superhero vibe. Everything is themed – the chairs, walls, food, dessert cutlery and even the bathrooms.
Child Friendliness
This place is quite child friendly for kids and babies. They have high chairs, a kids menu and special kids plates & cutlery.
The kids menu ranges in price from $13.90 – $17.90++ and includes a small apple or orange juice, which is served in a super hero cup.
Value for Money
The food at DC Cafe is expensive for a family friendly restaurant and over-priced! The food, drinks and especially the dessert are definitely not worth the price you are paying. You are paying for the atmosphere and themed food.
Just to put it into perspective, a bottle of regular water costs $4.50++ (tap water is not served), one fondant cupcake costs $8.90++, a side of french fries costs $9.90++. On average you will spend $40 – $50 per person for lunch (main course, drink & dessert) – even if you are sharing food, plan on spending at least $100++ for a family of four.
Promotions & Discounts
The DC Cafe does offer a special lunch promotion, kid’s set menu price, credit card promotions and is one of the discount restaurants on the EATIGO app, but buyer beware.
There are many exclusions to their promotions, which you don’t become aware of until the bill shows up. This happened to us and trust me I was not happy!! ALL their desserts, appetizers and even the french fries are labelled as “In House Specials”. I’m not sure how normal french fries can be considered special, but alas this is how it is at the DC Cafe.
Special Note: This “In House Special” label was recently added to the menu and was not there a few months back (I still have pictures of the old menu). Guess they want you to think you are getting a discount when you make the reservation, but don’t really want you to have one. And yes, I am still super annoyed about this – can you tell. 😉
Service & Staff
Service on a normal weekday is decent. On weekends and public holidays, the place is understaffed and a bit hectic. We have had good service and very, very poor service at this place – it’s really hit or miss here. If you have “starving” kids, do not take them to this place, as service is quite slow and it takes time to get your drinks & meals – so there will be lots of complaining while they wait.
Food Quality & Taste
If you are a foodie, you will be quite disappointed. The pizza is good, but the rest of the food fails in comparison to many of the other delicious cuisines in Singapore. While dining there, you will just have to keep reminding yourself that you are there paying for the DC Comics Super Hero atmosphere and are making the kids happy.
SuperMommy’s Overall Opinion
The food at DC Comics Super Hero Cafe is not that great. It is expensive compared to other Singapore family friendly restaurants, and the quality of service is just ok. Taking all that into account, DC Cafe is a great place for a family outing or also fun if you have out-of-town guests with kids. This is a good place for locals and tourists to visit one time to say that they have been, especially for superhero fans!
Will we dine at DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe Again? Probably. My boys love superheroes and the atmosphere is entertaining. As us parents always do, I will just need to suck it up and pay for the overpriced food & water – the things we do for our kids. Lol!
