Step 4: Decorate your Piñata in your Party Theme

The next step is to get creative. Start getting ideas by looking at piñatas on Pinterest or in a Google Search. Here is a link to my SuperMommy pinterest board with some creative piñata ideas.

Now let me share with you some of the piñatas I have created over the last few years. All of these piñatas include a step-by-step guide on how to make it at home. 🙂

Monster Piñata

The monster piñata was the first piñata I ever made for Zayden’s 4th Birthday Rainbow Monster Party. Not only was the piñata a great party feature, it also made for a great party decoration. In addition to a cute monster party, you can also use this piñata for Halloween. Click on the link for the step-by-step on “How to Make a Monster Piñata“.

Pirate Skull Piñata

For Zayden’s 5th Birthday at Port of Lost Wonder I made a pirate skull piñata for his pirate party. If you change the colors around this piñata can also be used for a girl’s pirate party and for Halloween as well. Click the link for a step-by-step on “How to Make a Pirate Skull Piñata“.

Halloween Piñata

A Jack-O-Lantern piñata is perfect for Halloween! I made this jack-o-lantern piñata when Xavion was 2 years old for his Halloween party with his little friends. As you can see the pumpkin piñata is massive (almost as big as Xavion). It makes an awesome centerpiece for a Halloween party or to greet trick-or-treaters when they come knocking on your door.  Here is the step-by-step on “How to Make A “Jack-O-Lantern” Piñata“.

Dinosaur Egg piñata

For Zayden’s “dinosaur” themed 6th Birthday party at KidsSTOP, I made a giant dinosaur egg piñata. Making a dinosaur egg piñata is fairly straight forward and actually very easy to do since it does not require any crepe paper decoration. One nice thing about this piñata was that instead of the traditional candy, it was stuffed with mini dinosaur eggs, which each had a baby dinosaur inside. Click here for a step-by-step on “How to Make a ‘Dinosaur Egg’ Piñata“.

Bird Piñata

I made a wacky bird piñata for Xavion’s 4th Birthday “Bird” themed birthday party at Jurong Bird Park.  You can also do a similar design for an Angry Bird, Zoo or Safari party. Click on the link for the step-by-step on “How to Make a “Wacky Bird” Piñata“.

Cops & Robbers Piñata

This piñata was for Xavion’s 5th Birthday “Cops & Robbers” themed party. This piñata does not use the usual paper mache technique, rather just a card box decorated in the jail-house theme. Click here for the step-by-step on “How to Make a “Jail House” Piñata“.

Since the theme was cops & robbers, the kids dressed like robbers were trying to break out the prisoners and the kid police officers were trying to find stolen with “evidence bags” which were stuffed inside.

Step 6:  Read the Super Piñata Tips Before you Start

Here are some super piñata making tips below to help you get started …

  • Keep it simple if you are a new piñata maker.
  • Make sure you have gathered and organized your supplies and have enough on hand when creating the piñata.
  • Start well in advance of the party date. The piñata inner shell will need time to dry.
  • Allocate enough time to make the piñata in your schedule. This is a step-by-step process.
  • Get your kids or a friend involved. It is more fun when you work as a team.
