I just love, love PS. Cafe. PS. Cafe has many locations, including Palais Renaissance, Paragon and A.S.H Park, but the one on Harding Road in Dempsey Hill (Singapore) is my absolute favorite.  Since this place is always busy, it’s a great place to plan a mom’s night out and you don’t have to deal with the hassle of heading over to Clarke Quay to find a crowd. No one likes an empty restaurant!

Atmosphere:  Although the place is usually packed, it overlooks an open field which gives it that semi-peaceful atmosphere.  PS. Cafe has both indoor, outdoor and lounge seating. I prefer to sit inside, however the outdoors is quite nice as well.  Make sure you request a seat by the window if sitting indoors.  PS. Café Harding is a popular hang-out for expats (as are many of the other Dempsey restaurants).

Food:  PS. Cafe serves a variety of food – salads, pastas, steaks and sandwiches and their portion sizes are quite large.  They serve many types fresh juices, tea, mocktails and cocktails, however the main attraction is their fabulous desserts.  My favorite is the double chocolate blackout cake. One piece can easily be shared with 3-4 people. Even if you don’t have room for dessert, make sure you take-away something from their large cake selection – you definitely don’t want to miss out.

Child Friendly:  Although I have seen lots of children at PS. Cafe (including my own), it is not necessarily child friendly.  They do not offer a special child’s menu or children’s portions.  Also, they do not have high chairs – only Baby Bjorn boosters that attach to the normal chairs (which may or may not work for some of the younger kids).

Cost: An entrée at PS. Café usually costs between S$20-S$30. If you are ordering a special from the main board, make sure you ask the price before ordering because some of the prices may be seasonal. Desserts range from S$10-S$15.  On average I usually spend S$50 on my meal (that is with one non-alcoholic drink and a shared dessert).

Service:  Both the service and food preparation time is very slow at PS. Café Harding, maybe because this is a more relaxed atmosphere out in Dempsey. The service at the PS. Cafe at Palais Renaissance is much faster (even during the peak lunch hour). Just plan on having a long lunch or dinner if you plan on dining there. This is not a place where you can grab a quick bite.  Also, make sure you allow plenty of time for your bill to come once you ask for it.

Reservations:  Make sure you make a reservation well in advance!!!  You can call or SMS +65-9070-8782 (I have them programmed in my phone) for reservations. PS. Cafe Harding is usually fully booked during peak lunch and dinner hours (even on random week nights).  It is a very popular place to dine and they will only hold your reservation for 15 minutes – so make sure you are on time or call in advance if you will be late.  Also, PS. Cafe does not take reservations for drinks/desserts or brunch (walk-ins only).

Attire:  As we know anything goes in Singapore.  This is a casual environment.  No need to bring out the black dress and stilettoes.  A nice summer dress or jeans/nice pants and a fancy top will work just fine (however even shorts and t-shirts in the day are passable).

Getting There:  Google map “Harding Road” before you venture out to PS. Cafe.  PS. Cafe’s address is 28B Harding Road (Singapore).  Most taxi drivers get really confused when it comes to Dempsey Road.  PS. Cafe is hidden amongst  many trees and is easily missed.  If you are driving, the surrounding area, including Dempsey Hill offers lots of free outdoor parking and valet on weekends.
