Are you tired of having frizzy dull hair? Is the Singapore humidity driving you crazy? SuperMommy has a solution for you. I am sure you have heard of the Brazilian Keratin straightening treatment but just haven’t had the time to check out for yourself – so here is all the info.

Although the treatment is called by different brand names the main ingredient used is Keratin, a protein found in human skin, hair and nails, which is sourced from Brazil (hence why many people refer to the brand “Brazilian Blowout” when talking about this treatment).

How does it work?

First – A special shampoo is used to wash your hair to open up the pores to get your hair ready for the Keratin treatment. Your hair will be washed anywhere from 3-5 times.

Second – The hair is towel dried and combed.

Third – The hair is sectioned and the Keratin treatment is carefully applied all over your hair.

Fourth – You are placed for 15 minutes under a heat machine (that looks similar to a space shuttle).

Fifth – Your hair is dried using a regular blow dryer (no brush or straightening device is used).

Sixth – After that, each section of your hair needs to be straightened using an ionic flatiron at 400-450F° or 250C°. This seals the Keratin to the hair.

Seventh – Finally, don’t wash your hair for 48-72 hours. The Keratin needs time to stabilize and attach to your hair. Unlike the original Keratin treatment, your hair does not smell and is not sticky. Also, you are able to tie your hair back.

How long do I have to be at the Salon?
The entire process takes approximately 2 ½ – 3 hours depending on the length of your hair.

How long does the treatment last?
They claim it lasts for up to 3 months. Mine actually lasts for around 4 months. It really depends on your hair type and how often you wash it. You can use special products to extend the life of your treatment. I personally only use the special shampoo for the first few washes and my hair still looks great months later. (Note: You have to use the special shampoo at the beginning).

How much does it cost?
The cost of the treatment is not cheap. Its approximately S$350 – S$550 for the treatment (depending on your hair length).

Is it worth it?
Yes. I get so many compliments after I do the treatment. It also greatly really reduces the time I have to blow dry and flat-iron my hair. Also, my hair is pretty much frizz free, straighter and shinier. You can buy a package at most places, which will cut the cost in half (which is what I did), but you will have to pay for the package upfront. Try to find a promotion if you are trying it out for the first time (email me if you live in Singapore – I know a few current deals).

Extra “Super” Tip: Super Mommies often have a hard time scheduling 3-4 hours away for a beauty treatment. Thus, when scheduling an appointment, ask if you can have two stylists for your treatment working simultaneously on your hair. This will greatly reduce the time spent in the salon. I scheduled my appointment during afternoon naptime and even though I have super long hair, I spent exactly 1 hour and 53 minutes in the salon.
