You have to admit when you saw the picture of the Rainbow Cupcakes you were impressed (at least a little bit)! Well you too can impress the rest of the moms at the next bake sale. These Rainbow Cupcakes are actually really quick and easy to make. It just takes is an extra 10 minutes of layering the batter and a little bit of Wilton food coloring.  All the rainbow colors make this cupcake super fun to eat for both kids and adults.

This is what you need:

  • White cake batter (any recipe will do)
  • Wilton Icing Coloring (regular food coloring doesn’t show up as bright)
  • 6 bowls and 6 spoons
  • Cupcake pan
  • Cupcake paper wrappers

Step-By-Step:

Step 1: Prepare your white cupcake batter according to your favorite recipe.

Step 2: Separate the cupcake batter into 6 bowls.

Step 3: Using a toothpick or the back of your spoon, put a LITTLE blob of Wilton food coloring into each of the bowls.  Make sure you add only a little at first, keep adding more until you get the color you want. Note: Mix the yellow and red icing colors to make “orange”.

Step 4: Stir the food coloring into the cupcake batter until the color is fully blended. Add more coloring if desired.

Step 5: Start layering the batter into the cupcake liners – purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and then red. Just one small spoon of each color should be enough for each cupcake. Be careful not to overfill.

Step 6: Bake the cupcakes according to your recipe instructions.

Step 7: You are all finished! Now didn’t I tell you that was easy!!

Step 8: Add some icing and sprinkles and these will sure be a hit at your next kid’s party!
