With Halloween just around the corner, try making these spooky black & orange popsicles to get into the haunting spirit. These easy popsicles require very few ingredients and take less than 10 minutes to make. Unlike normal sugar filled popsicles, this recipe only requires flavored yogurt (you can choose whichever brand you like best). These popsicles are the perfect treat for both kids and adults. Since there is no cooking, or exact measurements involved, you can even have your kids help you make them!
Things you will need:
- Vanilla flavored yogurt (mango, peach or strawberry yogurt can also be used)
- Popsicle molds
- Orange Wilton coloring or Food Coloring
- Black Wilton coloring or Food Coloring
- Bowls & Spoons
- Optional – Halloween candy (gummy worms, gummy spiders, etc.)
Easy Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
Divide the yogurt into two bowls. Note: My kid’s don’t eat chocolate, so we used yogurt, however you can also use Jello pudding to make these popsicles (not as healthy, but just as yummy). In fact if you use “chocolate” pudding for the black part of the popsicles, the color will be a much deeper shade of black.
Step 2:
Add a few drops of black food coloring into one bowl of yogurt and a few drops of black food coloring into the second bowl. I used Wilton black coloring and red & yellow food coloring for these popsicles. Note: If you use Wilton icing colors the popsicles will be a much darker shade of orange and black. Remember, a little bit of Wilton coloring goes a long way, so be careful not to use too much.
Step 3:
Start layering the yogurt into the popsicle molds, alternating the orange and black yogurt until you reach the top of the mold.
* Optional non-healthy sugary surprise: While you are layering, add the Halloween candy in the middle of the yogurt – this way your kids will get a little spooky treat.
Step 4:
Insert the popsicle stick into the mold. Then place the molds in the freezer for at least 4 or more hours.
Step 5:
Remove the popsicle from the mold and watch as watch as your face turns orange and black while you lick your Halloween treat.
Have a safe and Happy Halloween!!
